Title: Engine not turning over fully
Post by: Spyderfan on May 13, 2017, 06:05:27 PM
Hi guys was after some advice please ...
Engine has not been started 3 years at least , I've pulled plugs and put oil in bores .
Can turn over 3/4 way round then stuck
Could this be valves ? Next step?
Thanks

sounds like a stuck valve, confirm by taking the cam covers off and you should see the offending valve bucket still compressed while the cam lobe is clear.  I assume that the cam belt is driving the cams?.

Or Bore Corrosion. If you can get hold of an endoscope/ bore inspection gadget have a look down each of the bores. It is not worth forcing the issue that will only lead to expensive damage. Also confirm the Aux DS is not miss timed and locking against number 2 conrod.

Good luck, but expect head removal in the not very distant future.

You changed the cam belt on that a few weeks ago didn't you?

I'd put money on the auxiliary driveshaft being miss timed and the lobe hitting the crank. If it's a hard stop rather than a gradual tightening then its even more likely. As mentioned below a stuck valve is easy to identify and eliminate.
