Title: Failed Steering Rack Bush? Post by: capriblu on September 11, 2016, 02:27:18 PM Hi All,
Had the steering rack bush replaced on my coupe (manual TRW rack) about 4 years ago with a repro item. Have just noticed after a long run today the same knocking noise through wheel. Can seem to move rack up/down slightly when grabbing n/s control arm; some movement but less pronounced when doing similar with O/S control arm - Am I on the right lines? If it is the bush then is failure after just a few years and probably not much more than 7/8 K miles normal? See that Betaboyz parts now shows a Polyurethane item as alternative? Has anybody any experience of this as an alternative? Finally, last time had local mechanic/garage that I know change bush as didn't fancy trying to do this job at home without access to lift. Is this straightforward if I get car up on axle stands or is it not worth the faff? All advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andrew Title: Re: Failed Steering Rack Bush? I think this is what you mean. http://353652584127257704.weebly.com/store/p535/TRW_Manual_Rack_Inner_Bush_PU_Copy.html (http://353652584127257704.weebly.com/store/p535/TRW_Manual_Rack_Inner_Bush_PU_Copy.html) Mark states he has had these installed for some time now and all is well. I would have thought PU would be a good solution for this application, anyone else have any comments? Peter |
