Title: Skimming Discs
Post by: cheeky monkey on July 03, 2016, 07:58:07 PM
Hi
I'm going to change pads and bleed circuits so i was thinking of changing the discs. Has anyone had discs skimmed? or is it just better to fit new.?  I have some old stock discs that need cleaned up but it just got me thinking about trying to re-use what Ive got, so would be interested to know opinion/experience of the lathe route.
thanks
Graham

Hi Graham

No reason not to do this provided the end result is still within spec width wise. I am sure that someone can quote the disk tolerances, if not I can dig out the spec for you or may even be in Haynes?

If the discs are rough they will surely be close to min tolerance I'd fit new if they are available but if the old discs aren't too bad I'd keep them for future use in the event that discs become NLA. You may get away with a bit under tolerance on some discs as long as you don't let the pad wear get too bad.
