Title: Need a back box Post by: Little Frank on June 29, 2015, 10:25:09 PM Hi, as well as gear box problem today my back box gave up on me! Does anyone know which is the correct tail pipe for a 77 pre f/l 1600 coupe? At the moment it comes out the box and then angles out to the kerbside, I've seen that early coupes had a pipe that resembled an 's' type kink that is angled upwards, which is right? Next big ask is does anyone have a 'spare' they would be willing o sell?

One of them is new, the others in okish condition, they are all of the push fit type. Let me know if you want any photos. There was also a crowd selling back boxes on Ebay. I have no idea on how the tail pipe should go. If so, I wouldn't mind a photo of the new one if you were willing to sell it?

Title: Re: Need a back box Post by: rossocorsa on June 30, 2015, 07:49:36 AM Really early UK cars had swan necks, in Europe they seem to have all had the pipes that kink to one side. Not sure about series 2 pre facelift. I will have a look later if I find time. My view is that no one out there knows what is correct anyway as even we have to debate it! So get what you prefer the look of, tbh I think a nice polished straight stainless tailpipe is hard to beat looks wise.
A company in Germany sell beta exhausts on eBay don't know how good they are though. Hi Franco Here is the back box I have, made by QH, the push fit were standard on the earlier cars up to IE (I think) when they introduced the 3 box system, yours should be a two box system. This cost me £40 a while ago and is in good condition (never been fitted). Let me know if you want me to drop off tomorrow when I collect the wing liners. Peter |
