There's been enough interest shown in the North Yorkshire plan to make it viable so here's a reminder of the plan so far: - Start in Stokesley (a couple of miles north of the North York Moors and about 10 miles to the south of Teeside). The annual Stokesley Classic Car Show takes place on the Saturday. It's a low key charity event with about 200 cars; they're a friendly bunch and welcome use of their venue as a meeting point. The show runs from 10am to 4pm: whilst they like the main show cars to be in position for 9.30, for clubs they tend to group cars to one side and you can pretty much arrive as you please which makes it easy for those from the greatest distances. Stokesley is a pleasant market town with food and coffee. - Late pm - Drive coast/Moors. - Overnight accommodation for those who wish. I have the use of a 4-bedroom holiday cottage and camping field at the Family's farm near Chop Gate if you don't want the cost of B&B. For those willing to commit early, I'm sure you'd rather stay indoors and there are plenty of beds even if we double up in the rooms; if of course you'd rather sleep under canvas, the paddock will be clear for tents and there are appropriate wash/shower facilities. Chop Gate is about 6 miles south of Stokesley after a nice climb up into the National Park. Undercover car storage/repair space in a barn if needed. Depending on numbers, we'll either BBQ and drink beer at the farm or I'll arrange minibus taxi to the village for a bar meal. - Sunday - drive over the Moors. Include B1257 to Helmsley, Pickering for North York Moors Railway, probably out towards Whitby then back over the Moors towards Stokesley. I'll put together a pack-up of outline maps and approximate timings as we get nearer the date; this will allow a bit of choice on meeting or departure points for those with further to travel. I'll also include detail of the Farm's location for those who wish to stay but, to keep track of numbers attending, I'll send these pack-ups to your personal mail addresses. If you responded to my earlier post on the General Discussion page, please do so again on this thread and give me an idea of your accommodation wishes... I'll do my best! If you hadn't already responded, and you want to get involved, please indicate your interest below as soon as possible. By my recollection we should have the following so far:
Ultimately, the earlier you can commit to this... the easier it is for me to make it all work. Chris Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Neil-yaj396 on April 30, 2015, 07:09:30 AM Chris
As before count me in. Son or daughter may come with me. Happy to stay in our tent. Neil Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: peteracs on April 30, 2015, 07:51:10 AM Hi
Still on for the Saturday only in the Saab, is the aim still to have a BBQ on the Sat evening? If so happy to pitch in with some rolls/salady stuff and Veggie burgers (for those of us who do not eat meat)......... Peter Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: rossocorsa on April 30, 2015, 10:13:06 AM I wouldn't like to promise anything at the moment if I do come it'll most likely be the Saturday
Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: HFStuart on April 30, 2015, 02:53:24 PM I'll be there Sat and Sun. Bed preferred - canvas an option!
Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: smithymc on April 30, 2015, 06:35:28 PM Yes to Saturday. Not sure about Sunday or accommodation yet.
Mark Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Thotos on April 30, 2015, 07:19:06 PM As stated before, I'll be there for the whole weekend with the Trevi (it does have a 'Beta' badge on the bootlid ;) ;D )
Sorry, I don't do camping so it'll have to be a bed for me. If there's not going to be an 'official' hotel selected nearby just let me know when it's a 'go' and I'll sort something out. I'll probably travel north on the Friday so I'll have a two night stay and be sure to be there on time on the Saturday. "Have Trevi will travel" ;D ;D Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: betabuoy on April 30, 2015, 09:30:34 PM Theo
All noted, your early commitment certainly secures the bed and you're welcome Friday night too. Chris Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: betabuoy on May 11, 2015, 11:53:26 AM Chaps
For those attending (guessing upto 10 cars) I could get 'Betaboyz BetaMeeta 2015 North Yorkshire' medium (290x 145mm) polypropylene rally plates made in full colour for £10 each including set up. Would this be of interest? Chris Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: mtulloch on May 11, 2015, 08:54:45 PM Still not 100% certain if I can make this all weekend but looking hopeful for Saturday. Are there any rooms left or would it be wise to pack a tent just in case? ???
Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: smithymc on May 11, 2015, 08:58:22 PM I like the idea of a rally plate.
Looks I will be staying overnight Saturday, heading back Sunday morning. Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: betabuoy on May 17, 2015, 09:02:14 PM I'd say with current expected numbers, aside from Neil, who likes the canvas, we should all be in the cottage. Certainly a much more comfortable option!

BETAMEETA 15 UPDATE I'm reaching a stage where it would be handy to gather all your PM addresses. I have a word doc from the Stokesley Rotary Club which, if completed soon, will get free entry to the showfield. I can assure you that they're keen to see even a small gathering of Betas for a couple of hours so it'll be a great start point but I'll need to attach the doc to an email for you to enter your reg details etc. Saturday We'll leave the showfield by 1500hrs to go out through Great Ayton to the coast at Saltburn (13 miles); after ice-creams if you wish, it'll be back in the cars for some gentle moors roads through Danby, Castleton and Kildale to Great Broughton before turning left to blast up the hill (Clay Bank) on the B1257 for about 5 miles towards our accomodation at the farm. Total tour distance from departing showfield approx 40 miles. For those staying overnight, I'll have some beers waiting and I've gone for taxis (booked) at 1930hrs to take us back into Great Broughton to The Bay Horse for dinner and beer. Return taxis are booked for 2230hrs. Sunday After breakfast (Time TBD) it'll be South on the B1257 to Helmsley then East on the A170 to Pickering to meet the North York Moors Railway. Detail on rail tickets, for those who wish, will follow; otherwise, we have the A169 North to Grosmont then possibly to continue to Whitby but I suggest we plan that on the day depending on your return journey plans. I aim to finalise numbers for Taxis, Dinner, Beds/Camping spots and possibly Railway Tickets by 13 June. Showfield details should be much sooner but if we don't get the forms completed it's only £5.00 at the gate on the day! All I need for now is your personal email address so please drop me a line to themaces@hotmail.com as soon as you can. That was/is the plan but with Betameeta just 2 weeks away and me being busy this coming weekend, I don't have the time to have one made and fitted. So I was hoping for a quick and cheap fix by getting a back box on eBay but it'll have to be a bodged fix I think.... PM sent Peter Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: smithymc on June 09, 2015, 06:25:57 PM Fuel tank off today and looked pretty good inside. Just a little surface rust but no clue as to where the gob of stuff came from that blocked the filter. Absolutely nothing loose detectable in the fuel we fetched out, so I have decided to shelve lining the tank, as there is no going back once you go there. Also, lining the fuel and vent lines where they run inside the tank may not be that easy and they are perhaps the area with the most corrosion.
Sender wildly out as I was in the red and fetched almost 5 gallons out- no wonder I thought is was thirsty with the speed it goes down to halfway. I never tend to fill it anyway as I always seem to end up wearing some of it as it blows back. So it's back in the morning, blow through the lines and put it all back together again. Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: HFStuart on June 09, 2015, 11:10:49 PM Beta fuel gauges always seem to be wildly pessimistic. Great to see the tenacious Betaboyz spirit evident here. Well done chaps and the first beers are on me! Chris Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: mtulloch on June 15, 2015, 10:05:22 PM It's looking likely I will have to miss this now. Bloody VX failed to start this morning so had to take my Alfa 166 and seeing as I'm down in Yorkshire, I won't get the chance to have a look prior to the weekend. >:(
I also may now be working but if not could still turn up in the Alfa. As an aside, does anyone have an ignition switch with key for sale as I'm certain that's where the problem lies? ??? Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Thotos on June 15, 2015, 11:31:30 PM Not sure if Beta ignition switches are the same as Fiat 131 (look the same externally) but if they are then one from a Ducato 84 - 94 will fit.

It looks like we could have 8 cars for this years BetaMeeta which, if it all comes together, will be a terrific effort for the Betaboyz and will certainly represent a significant combined travelling mileage in supporting a 'Northern' event. For those of you who have indicated your attendance, you should have a private email in your inbox giving you all the detail you need; if not, let me know and I'll sort it out. Finally, if you've not been in touch but you still wish to attend, the meeting place is the Stokesley Showground (Post code TS9 5JL) between 0930 and 1200hrs. Just turn up if you wish but if you intend to join us for the evening and/or overnight accommodation you must contact me first. You'd be most welcome. Regards Chris Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Thotos on June 19, 2015, 12:21:24 PM Are they 5 wire? Gave mine a quick wash this morning and better put a bit of RainX on the screen given the latest forecast and the Limes 'leisurely' wipers. See you all tomorrow. Many thanks to Chris for organising a superb weekend without it feeling in anyway regimented, being a great host and for providing top notch sausages! Good to see the rest of you too! Sorry I had to bail this morning, but keeping to the spirit of things I stopped at the bottom of Sutton Bank, waited for a big enough gap in the traffic and then gave it some beans back up the hill before turning back around and heading south. Great fun, though the tourists at the viewpoint may not have agreed. Where to next year? Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Neil-yaj396 on June 21, 2015, 05:57:04 PM Yes, well done Chris, an absolutely excellent weekend.
Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: smithymc on June 21, 2015, 06:55:20 PM Back home - just about- my fuel issue decided to turn up again about 5 miles from home so was like river dance on the pedals to keep it alight. Filter clear- but it only takes one grain I suppose.
A top weekend. Great to see everyone and thanks of course to Chris for his superb hosting and organisation. I thought Jacob did particularly well for a small bloke too! I came up with a brainwave to improve refinement on trip back. The same upsetting of rucksack with zip open that produced the Betaboyz badge had also revealed a set of supersoft earplugs from my biking days. Hey presto- instant Bentley! The laugh was when I took them out when I got off the motorway - it sounded like the thing was coming apart. I seriously thought I had driven all the way with the door half open! I will put my photos on Dropbox or something when I get a minute. Once again, thanks and best wishes. Mark Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: DARREN BETA. Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: capriblu on June 23, 2015, 06:58:15 PM Last minute change of plans at home meant that I could join in on the Saturday but alas not the Sunday. Great to meet everyone and thanks Chris for organising. Highlight for me was the late afternoon run especially when the sun came out as we ran over the moors before dropping down to Danby - fabulous! Its great to drive behind Betas on the road, they look so elegant and dinky compared with the bloated 21st century boxes.
Disappointed that I needed a push start to make a get away from North Yorkshire - thanks chaps for your efforts. Intermittent fault on starter solenoid I fear (ugh!) First major electrical issue I have had for a long time. After a few miles of running and arriving at the top of the first decent hill I switched the engine off and tried starter, worked first time? Haven't been able to replicate problem at home either. Thanks once again Chris for organising - I must spend more time exploring North Yorkshire roads. Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Thotos on June 23, 2015, 09:10:30 PM Will Neil or Theo be putting it, with a link to Theo's pics, on the LMC website? Mark Theo? can you put it on? I was thinking of doing a short article for VL. It's done. You can see it at http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8090.msg58065#msg58065 (http://www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8090.msg58065#msg58065). Writing it up for VL is a great idea Neil. Feel free to pick up any of my photos or if you wanrt them sent by email just let me know. Question is who will brave enough to save that pair of spiders?.. Someone near by with a little space? Peter is the man to speak to as regards Beta electrical faults, you are right Andrew, solenoid or dodgy earth(s) below head lights etc. Seeing all our Beta's together flying along reminds us just how brilliant these cars are... not that any of us has forgotten! :) Title: Re: BetaMeeta 2015 - North Yorkshire 20/21 June Post by: Neil-yaj396 on September 13, 2015, 08:25:02 AM There is a write up of the event and some nice photos in this months Viva Lancia.

He gives a great description of his racing method based on the Beta being able to kill anything in the bends and how he times his positioning for this. Despite some mechanical problems, teamed with his wife Louise, who has campaigned the car in the past, he was able to consistently improve on his grid position, beating several Porsche's in the process. Another great profile raiser for the abilities of the Beta. |
