The worrying thing is that was it not the case that they had to be road worthy when chopped in? Even in 2009 Who the hell would scrap a beta fulvia or integrale for a £2k discount that they could have saved anyway by buying a prereg or a no part ex discount? (Or flogging the car!) You get the impression it wasn't exactly policed carefully. I hope that some of the cars scrapped had very hooky MOTs. If they were genuinely roadworthy they didn't deserve to die.
