Title: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on July 19, 2014, 06:06:10 PM Hi All
I posted this on the LMC site and seemed to go down well, so thought some of you would enjoy it if you have not seen it already. Make sure you can allocate some time, can be addictive...... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=project+binky+-+episode+1 (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=project+binky+-+episode+1) (original link came from one of the guys on the Stratos EC forum) Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on August 04, 2015, 05:55:33 PM Hi All
For those new to it or just not aware, this amazing and amusing (for me anyway) project is now up to 10 episodes on YouTube .... Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: mangocrazy on August 28, 2015, 01:52:44 PM Fascinating stuff. Their fabrication skills are off the scale.

Now up to #12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMT9Ykmneiw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMT9Ykmneiw) Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: Hawk on April 26, 2016, 07:09:07 PM Loving that work :)
The exhaust size comparison was amazing Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: mangocrazy on April 26, 2016, 10:51:11 PM Looking forward to seeing the car at Goodwood in June. One of the things that makes Youtube worthwhile.
Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on July 24, 2016, 09:10:50 PM Hi All

Obviously forgot to post that episode 15 was available some time ago, here is the link.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hViplB84We4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hViplB84We4) Also episode 16 is now available, interesting how they sort out the power steering pump, maybe an idea for those who have betas with them and want to not use an engine driven pump. Also interesting to see how long it takes to make the 'simple' bracket for it to be mounted.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR1nU9IJsoM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR1nU9IJsoM) Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: mangocrazy on October 18, 2017, 08:34:22 PM Last year (for the first time) I went to Goodwood festival of Speed and the two Binky-fondlers were there in one of the units. And in real life they are just as they are in the videos but even more entertaining. And definitely more bonkers. Fascinating blokes to chat to, very approachable and very funny.
But you probably guessed that already. Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: HFStuart on October 18, 2017, 09:50:56 PM The electric power steering pump idea had already occurred to me. The only problem is whether the pressure might be too high - I don't want feather steering with no feel at all. I don't know if reducing the voltage would reduce the pressure and allow me to vary the level of assistance to suit - or indeed have it speed sensitive!

Hi Stuart The voltage question is possibly not the way to go, I would imagine there is some sort of pressure regulator in the unit and on some it may be adjustable to suit? If you want electrically variable steering then a Corsa B column and a controller from Car builder Solutions will give you variable assistance. This was done on the X19 track car at the NEC 2 years ago. Of course if you have a fancy ECU controlling the engine it will have PWM outputs to vary pump speed vs whatever you choose probably wheel speed. Bad Obsession sell Link ECUs that do things like that and they actually supplied me with one for the Volumetrico Monte. A bit far out there for a Beta Spyder IMHO. Even I am only fitting the OE power steering with a smaller steering wheel larger tyres and negative camber at the front. Cheers Eric Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: HFStuart on October 19, 2017, 06:35:37 PM That's not what I want to do. Hydraulic Ps would be fine but an electric pump would make packaging under the bonnet a bit easier. It can after all be put wherever I like.

Just to update that there are a couple more episodes now available. See https://www.youtube.com/user/badobsessionmsport/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/badobsessionmsport/videos) Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on October 05, 2018, 07:19:16 AM Hi
Episode 19 released..... A spot of wiring. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QBXT1sHP92w Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: HFStuart on October 05, 2018, 08:43:01 AM I see Ed China did a video with them too - a year or so ago now but I'd not seen it.
Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on November 02, 2018, 11:51:59 PM Hi
Episode 20 released, some pretty nice machining..... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WIyxrvO3dRk&t=217s Peter Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: mangocrazy on November 03, 2018, 12:53:34 AM The machining (and planning that went into it beforehand) is mind-boggling. I went past an original Mini on the motorway on the way to Stanwood Engineering on Thursday and was staggered at just how tiny they are. And all that stuff has to be packed into its miniscule dimensions.
Modern cars are absolute bloaters... Title: Re: Project Binky Post by: peteracs on April 13, 2019, 10:35:48 AM Hi All
