Title: Gear box / diff casing Post by: dommorello on July 10, 2014, 11:17:51 AM Hi There,
Have a couple of queries with gear box & diff casing. Firstly was there or should there be a gasket at the joining between the diff case & gear box casing?? Doesnt seem to have one and workbook manual we have doesnt show one. Although just feels as though there should be a gasket Second query is regarding the original color / painting of the gear box & diff casing. We are working on 2 cars at the moment one has a light brown colored paint over these whereas the other car has no paint. Just wondering which one was original. guessing they were not painted but wanting to confirm if anyone knew. cheers Title: Re: Gear box / diff casing Post by: lukasdeopalenica on July 11, 2014, 07:25:46 AM There must be a gasket between the casings as both of them are filled with the same oil. Originally there was no paint at the boxes, just alloy cast.
regards p.s. where do you live in Oz? Title: Re: Gear box / diff casing Post by: dommorello on July 11, 2014, 07:34:48 AM thats what we thought but cant find any documentation on the gaskett

There is no gasket on the diff housing to the gearbox but there are gaskets every where else. The diff casing usually has a gasket compound fitted. I have built a lot of these gearboxes and they are originally in raw aluminium. I tend to bead blast the casings or sand blast and spray them silver.
