Title: Refinishing subframes - Powdercoating vs. painting Post by: droptop on June 09, 2014, 08:09:17 AM I have two spare subframse and wishbones I'm refurbishing with the intention of installing them on the spiders over time and I'm leaning towards a painted finish rather than powdercoating as i feel there's less chance of a paint chip becoming a point of ingress for water and road salt over time.
I've seen the results of old powdercoated chassis components on some of my daily drivers over the years and it ain't pretty. What do you think? Should last long enough and does look fine.

I'll price it and that will be a deciding factor! Title: Re: Refinishing subframes - Powdercoating vs. painting Post by: Neil-yaj396 on June 09, 2014, 07:53:29 PM Paint every time. If it gets chipped, which it will, it can always be sanded and touched up.

Title: Re: Refinishing subframes - Powdercoating vs. painting Post by: droptop on June 13, 2014, 08:56:19 AM Right, I've pretty much ruled out powder coating as it seems to be the waste of time I suspected it too be.
Now for something completely different - Coil springs! Paint or powder coat? I've seen people getting them powder coated but would that hold up against constant flexing, never mind stone and salt damage? I recon not so maybe it's a rundant question Title: Re: Refinishing subframes - Powdercoating vs. painting Post by: lukasdeopalenica on June 13, 2014, 12:54:01 PM I get them powder coated, to short to say anything more that at the begining of using them look well.
