Whatif any, is the consensus regarding the quality of dayco timing belts or is this a subject for open discussion?
If so then fire away, otherwise maybe you'd PM me your thoughts to prevent publicising negative comments.
It's just that they appear reasonably priced About 50% cheaper) compared to Gates products (which I trust 100%) but would they prove more costly in the long run?

Never really considered them anything other than normal quality I have used them without issue

I've used them and also Gates, never had a problem with either.

I had no preconceptions myself but Gates was always my "go to" brand but now I can replace the belts on both cars for the cost of one Gates belt.

I have used both in the past with no problems.
I think what's more important that the make of the belt is the age of the belt. Belts, like tyres and other rubber products, have a shelf-life but belts do not seem to have a "sell by" date or even a "manufactured" date. So buying from a reputable supplier and ensuring the packaging looks new and recent is more important than the make of the belt; or so I believe.....

Have to agree with Theo, age is everything, if the box is battered and aged I'd give the belt inside a miss.  Having a manufactured date would solve the issue immediately, so I'd avoid anything marked as NOS.

Nowadays I fit Gates belts, because of availability and reputation plus it's a small but crucially important service item, so why risk your pride and joys engine?
