Title: Brake Fluid Post by: smithymc on February 27, 2013, 09:27:52 PM Another very basic one - you will have to bear with me.
Is Dot 4 synthethic fluid suitable? Thanks. Mark Title: Re: Brake Fluid Post by: HFStuart on February 27, 2013, 10:09:29 PM DOT 4 is a mineral base not silicone base and it is stil available
DOT 5 is silicone based DOT 5.1 is (I think) synthetic non silicone and might be OK - Please check this before using it though! Title: Re: Brake Fluid Post by: millieman on February 27, 2013, 10:50:34 PM Have been using 5.1 for last 15 years with no probs.
Title: Re: Brake Fluid Post by: WestonE on March 12, 2013, 08:22:16 AM DOT 5.1 is a thinner mineral fluid designed for ABS and will work fine having a higher boiling point as well. However careful choice of the right DOT4 fluid can give a harder pedal with better feel and a similar high boiling point. After a lot of trial on Montecarlos where brakes are a bit of an issue ATE super blue and Motul RBF600 are good choices but there are several other good choices.
