Title: Seat belts
Post by: Sledgewomble on February 07, 2013, 10:51:32 PM
My wife wants to be able to go on family trips in Lucy this summer but has asked me to get rear seat belts fitted.  Any advice?

All the fitting points are there behind the seats, you just need to buy the belts. Don't think any type of inertia belt will fit, just statics.

Find someone who is breaking a Series 3 car (2000ie or a VX) and have the rear belts from that. Not sure if HPE rear belts would fit a coupe but of I saw a photo of HPE rear belts then I'd be able to confirm if they are the same as the Coupe version.

I put them in my S2/FL - takes about 30 minutes to retro fit so I can get my 78 Coupe through the Control Techniqué.

I have a set of Coupe rear seat belts out of my S1 coupe. All Australian cars were fitted with static type rear seat belts.

No longer required as i have removed rear seats.....

Can get a postage quote if interested.

Cheers Ian

I don't think my VX had rear belts fitted (the interior is stripped out o working from memory) certainly they aren't required by law in the UK on cars pre 87 (I think)

Dear Sledgewomble,
I echo what Matt has said. Our HPE VX (1983) had rear belts fitted as standard. They are statics but they should fit a Coupe no problem. Have a look under your seat squab, you should find threaded mounting points already there.

You also need to check the anchor points are there in the rear arches. I cannot recall who it was but someone found their car had only the one arch anchor point.

It was me Matt - an eagle-eyed Controle Technique inspector spotted it, and politely failed my car. I can't imagine how the factory only fitted one anchorage point in the rear, but they did...

I wonder if someone has repaired the arch at some point in the past and decided not to bother with the hassle of lining it up and welding it back in?

Will double check anchor points when I return from my ice hockey road trip over the weekend.

Ian -a postage quote would be great

It's a possibility, certainly. I wasn't the first (or second) owner, even though I've owned it since 1986.
