Title: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: Lancia Beta 2000 on January 14, 2009, 03:36:53 PM Hi to all! (sorry for my poor english..)
I've a problem with my Beta Coupe 2000 witha Weber DATR carburettor (with auto choke) When I'm start the cold engine, it goes to 1900-2000rpm for a while (3-4 seconds) and this is not good for me,.. (a cold engine, with the oil not yet in pressure etc...). Is there any mode to set the carburettor for the cold start? I must to work on the automatic choke setting screw? If I start engine without depressing accelerator pedal, the problem is the same.. ??? Thank you so much.. Have a nice day, Daniele Title: Re: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: MattNoVAT on January 14, 2009, 07:10:19 PM Hi Daniele,
I had a similar issue with my carb, the cam wheel that controls the auto choke was worn and caused the cam wheel to slip back and the car would drop from 2000 rpm and then stall. Also I found that water coolant route through the carb was blocked with some debris and caused the auto choke to think that the car was properly warmed up. I bought a second hand carb and fitted that, that fixed my issues, but you can send the carb away to be renovated by a specialist, which I will get round to one day. It's my same problem! I will search for a specialist that can fix this fault... Manual choke is far better >:( >:( Thank you again, Daniele Title: Re: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: MattNoVAT on January 15, 2009, 11:23:12 AM Daniele,
As a short term solution I bought the second hand DATR34 off Ebay for only £20. This carb worked perfectly (lucky I guess) but I will send the old carb with the worn cam wheel away to be renovated. I will be looking for a company that can do this, I have seen adverts for Weber renovation in the past, you send them your carb with a list of its faults and they rebuild it and replace the faulty/worn internals. I will post up the details when I find them again. Good Luck! Title: Re: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: MattNoVAT on January 15, 2009, 11:48:07 AM You could also try adjusting the automatic choke screw (turn it clockwise)
Alternatively, you could try these people if the adjustment does not work. I would to buy a second hand DATR 34, so I can try to repair (by myself or by a specialist) the automatic choke. I don't want to risk working with my carburettor...because if something will go badly, I don't have a car :o I,ve tried to turn the fast idling adjusting screw with choke in, but it doesn't seem to turn... Title: Re: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: HFStuart on January 15, 2009, 11:20:22 PM Or buy a 34 DMTR and (exactly the same as a DATR but manual choke) and convert it to manual.
I have this on my Spyder and it works very well Title: Re: Automatic choke of DATR34 in lancia Beta Post by: MattNoVAT on January 22, 2009, 08:09:27 PM There is a Weber DATR 34 on Ebay at the minute
Get him to remove the manifold and you could be onto a winner!
