Have found following distributor during my garage clearout!!
Can anyone identify please?
markings on side are:- SM8060X 815R2 815P2 6K

Has been suggested a block mounted '79 unit?
Any confirmation at all??

I think its off a late car, as it has the electrical block, maybe i.e.

I will be in the garage later so will have a look at the VX head I have in there as that has cams and dizzy attached.

That's definitely not off a late car,ie and vx have dizzy on end of cam, the cap looks like it has screws holding cap which suggest to me an earlier car.maybe it could be north American spec? Or not beta at all

Have tried Eric Weston who suggested Guy Croft who also did not know exactly what it came off from info given.

it looks a bit more like a gamma one but don't think that the splined drive is correct

nope checked gamma one has clipped on cap and different drive

is it a bosch dizzy or marelli??

That looks like a Marelli block mounted distributor for the 131 except for the vacuum advance unit which the 131's did not have. I believe some North American and Swiss versions of the 131 had vacuum advance units but I thought they had head-mounted distributors.

My best guess was late Fiat 132 because of the block mount and Marelli Electronic Ignition Plug. Not a Beta one IMHO.

Looks very similar to the dizzy that I had on my 1980 American spec 2 litre Fiat 124 Spider.

I don't know much about 132s (not as much as 131s anyway  ;) ) but later 131s and 132s shared the same engines. So I'd expect 132s not to have vacuum advance on their block mounted distributors.


Presumably the 2 litre 124s got the 132 (131) 2 litre engine. Earlier 124s had head mounted distributors (with vacuum advance for USA) but I don't know about the later 2 litre 124s.

Beta engines, even though very similar to the Fiat 132/131/124 engines, had quite a few subtle differences mainly due to the angle that they were fitted in the Betas plus of course it was the first FWD installation of these engines. I've only seen Bosch distributors in Betas but I suppose there must have been some Marelli ones?

PS I've posted it on the Fiat 131 forum to see what some of the very knowledgeable guys on there think.

My 2 litre Fiat 124 spider was fuel injected and had a block mounted dizzy with vacum advance.

looks similar to my 1300 beta 1979 but thats a Marelli SM806AX

It's "DX" and it's from a Ritmo/Strada 125TC I think.

I bought this distributor from Tom just for the vacuum advance unit, which I've now fitted to my 1300 Coupe. There are no obvious physical differences to the distributor on my car and I was tempted to do a straight swap. I was only put off by a single letter in the part number, as Graham points out above, an A.

The distributor also contains the rare Marelli ignition unit, so I'll probably hang on to it.
