Title: Pipe flaring
Post by: f1fascination on September 08, 2012, 03:39:19 AM
Guys, I recently bought what I thought would be all the sufficient gear for gear for flaring my own brake pipes, only to find that the draper double flaring tool doesn't seem to put the correct flares on the pipe.
Do I need to spend a million dollars and get a "professional" grade flaring tool with the right dies?
Has anyone else come across this issue?
I don't really want to have a brake shop do them, as I am keen to do all the work myself.

I used a standard double flare tool on mine with no issues.

http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-brakes-tools/brake-pipe-flaring-tool.html (http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-brakes-tools/brake-pipe-flaring-tool.html)  - you can find them cheaper than Frosts but it was the easiest link to put in here.

Bear in mind the flares deform quite a bit when they are clamped up for the first time

Thanks Stuart, I managed to borrow an old Sykes flarer that does the job perfect. That's another job done.
