Title: Car scissor lifts Post by: mangocrazy on February 05, 2012, 01:13:04 PM I'm not sure if this is the right section for this question; if not, please feel free to move it.
I'm idly thinking about buying something to make general work on the car easier and less hard on my ageing bones, and was looking at this item on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330680028822?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330680028822?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) I'm not sure whether it represents good value or not, but I was mainly wondering where on the car you would locate the lifting pads. As far as I can see, this lift is intended to operate on the body not on suspension components, allowing you to work on wheels, suspension, exhaust etc. Would this be suitable for Betas, and especially for cars with a less than perfect chassis? What do you use (if at all) to achieve a better working height/easier access? I've been toying with the idea of getting something like this also, but not at the house I'm in at the moment. Title: Re: Car scissor lifts Post by: TonyLanciaBeta on February 05, 2012, 05:19:20 PM I have something similar at work, although ours does not lift as high as that one.
we use blocks of wood under the jacking points or sill, although we have a 3 ton two poster lift the scissor lift can be very useful (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7149/6823588883_d2bf6e88e2_z.jpg) (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7010/6823607931_54121ff638_z.jpg) and it doubles up as a work bench :) (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6823582333_2a16044c6a_z.jpg) Title: Re: Car scissor lifts Post by: thecolonel on February 05, 2012, 11:16:58 PM The one I use has two platforms so you can walk
through the middle, lifts to about 5.5 feet, great for wheels/suspension/brakes/engine/gearbox But has limitations, then so does a two post or four post lift. |
