Title: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: Shep on February 01, 2012, 10:55:11 PM Hello all!
So me and a mate of mine were in debate on what would be worth doing to my beta coupe..... She is bog standard at the moment and a mate suggested putting on a set of webers instead of fuel injection. I didnt think it would be beneficial as she runs fairly spot on at the moment through the ecu eliminating the need to tweak carbs every now and again. Seems like a larger job than first thought and not sure on how much performance this would actually acheive unless i spent more £££s..... So thought id get your views on it.... (bare in mind im still a newb! :D ) Cheers , Shep Title: Re: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: rossocorsa on February 02, 2012, 12:02:32 AM unless you have deep pockets and want lots of go don't bother, the injection engine is by far the best of the bunch smoother than carb more economical etc........ Focus on getting the electrics tip top and all the injection bits in A1 order. Just my view I'm sure Eric will be along to advise on the fun factor you could achieve by adding a pair of carbs and if you really want to get a significant power increase the original injection system is unlikely to be suitable. You will find that the car isn't really set up as standard to cope with a great deal more power, traction is an issue with increased torque that can only be solved with expensive suspension upgrades.

That said, my spyder has an ie engine with twin 40s - and I love the noise Title: Re: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: MattNoVAT on February 02, 2012, 01:37:51 PM I'm in agreement - leave it be :-)
Title: Re: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: Shep on February 02, 2012, 06:54:27 PM Thought as much! Like i said im still a newb, didnt wanna sound like a pleb! :D Im VERY happy how she pulls anyway so wont tweak too much.
As for the glorious induction noise.... thatll be missed but she still sounds good ! And u cant hear much over the gearbox whine anyway! lol Cheers guys! Post by: lanciamad on February 03, 2012, 06:24:44 PM Concentrate on the running and electrics and your be quite satisfied with that, you may want upgrades but in truth your probably producing near off what it did out of the factory, and probably running better than many carb'd cars. See my rolling road bit on my blog, my torque figure was bang on, 30 years on.
I know more than a couple of people with big carbs, not set up properly with poor ignition systems, claiming big power and actually running less power than mine. Room for improvement is minimal with the bosch system, really you want to go into throttle bodies, and that takes it to a completely different level which takes a lot of money and time. I read your thread lanciamad :o and well what can i say... i love it! Shes a beaut! Very inspiring stuff!! ;D
Title: Re: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: lanciamad on February 05, 2012, 09:32:52 PM Thanks very much, i've not been very inspiring recently, but time and the weather haven't helped. Hopefully funds will permit some tlc and I can keep her going for 2012 even if mod's take another step back. :-\
Title: Re: Settle an debate - carbs or injection? Post by: Shep on February 12, 2012, 11:10:10 PM :-\ but end of the day you got a lancia! Think thats the main thing here :D Ive been meaning to sort mine out to get her on the road again but, same as you, time and weather, just haven't managed to get out there!
