Title: Flexible Hose Clips
Post by: Neil-yaj396 on May 19, 2011, 05:29:26 PM
How do you remove the clips that retain the flexible hoses to the bracket on the body? Naturally mine are rusted to hell! There is an additional retainer at the front half way down the pipes. Is this held in place by an allen bolt?

If it helps, pic of my struts http://www.betaboyz.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=472.msg5919#msg5919 (http://www.betaboyz.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=472.msg5919#msg5919) the flexi pipes are held close to the strut by the clamp with an M6 I think it is bolt.

Thanks, that answers the second half of the question, but how do you get the clips at the top of the hose off???

It's where the top of each pipe is attached to the bracket welded to the body. An LMC Forum poster reckons you 'wiggle' them off with pliers. Will post a picture when I have a go at removing them.

IIRC, there should be a square U shaped retaining clip that pushes into a slot where the end of the flexible hose meets the end of the metal brake line.  The retaining clip pushes against the right angled bracket slides into a slot in the metal section where the two pipes meet.

The retaining clip is not flat so there is a small amount of pressure pushing against the right angled bracket.  This is what holds the pipe in place.  Normally to insert/remove the clip you grab it with suitable pliers and give it a good wiggle to get  it in/out of place.

Yes, these clips do rust and it sounds like the tab on the end of the retaining clip may have rusted away.

I have to remove mine when I get home as I'm replacing all the rubber brake hoses.  I have lots of spare clips so if you need some just shout and I'll throw some in the post.

Check out the picture in eBay item 290501398757.

This is the clip when it's not rusted to bits!  Hopefully the picture will help you determine if the end tab has rusted away from the clips on your car and will mean you will have to flick the remnants of the old clips out with a small flatblade screwdriver.
