Title: auto choke whats up Post by: markgoldsmith on February 03, 2011, 01:40:16 AM hi all wonder if anyone could advise on course of action .Have a 79 coupe ,starts ok but needs revs at first to avoid cutting out. after maybe 2 to3 mins revs start to climb to normal choke level and kicks off as norm when engine warm ,does this point to any particular part on the auto choke or can anyone suggest way to go.
Title: Re: auto choke whats up Post by: Ammy on February 03, 2011, 01:07:54 PM When cold, are you sure the choke flap is closing completely ? If not, adjust the movement by slackening off the three screws holding the auto mechanism and moving to the left.

"Most Betas are fitted with automatic chokes in the carburettor, which need to be activated with two presses of the pedal before you start the (cold) engine. Now, I know this sounds like a stupid answer, but I thought there was something wrong with my first HPE until I discovered this advice in the owners manual, and I know of at least one person who's bought a Beta sold cheap due to non-existent 'cold-starting problems' because the previous owner didn't know this.
